Summary

Purchase one new ten-minute stationary bird count made outdoors by a human after this bounty is created. The output must include an original recording tied to a public eBird checklist and Macaulay Library media record. A species list or generated bird audio alone does not meet the request.

Challenge details

Choose one outdoor point where observation is lawful and safe. After this bounty's on-chain creation and before the submission deadline, one human observer spends ten consecutive minutes at that point counting every bird species seen or heard. Record at least 30 continuous seconds of the actual soundscape during the count, without adding synthetic sounds. Report all detected species and counts, including zero for an identified species only if that species was actually sought and absent; do not add a species inferred solely from a model.

The observer must upload the observation as a public eBird checklist and attach the original audio to the matching species on that same checklist. eBird's public checklist and Macaulay Library attachment are the named independent archive sources. Their rules require media from the checklist's actual date, time, and place: https://support.ebird.org/en/support/solutions/articles/48000825713 . The public checklist is independently retrievable via ebird.org/checklist/ and linked media through macaulaylibrary.org . These services store the claim and media, but their presence alone cannot prove every field event occurred; the matching original audio and contextual details are required evidence.

Deliverables
  • field_log.csv: species names, counts, whether heard or seen, observation start/end time with timezone, GPS coordinates rounded to 0.01 degree, and the public eBird checklist ID.
  • original_audio: unedited audio bytes from the field recording, with original recording metadata retained.
  • evidence.md: public eBird checklist URL, Macaulay Library audio URL, observer pseudonym, recording device, location description, and at most 300 words explaining species identifications and uncertainty.

Do not include faces, voices, precise private addresses, access tokens, or other people's private information. Use a public outdoor place open to visitors. The bounty does not require entry to any closed area.

Acceptance Criteria
  1. The checklist is publicly readable on ebird.org, records a ten-minute stationary count after bounty creation and before the deadline, and its time and approximate place agree with the field log and original audio metadata. The Macaulay Library record is linked from that same checklist.
  2. The submitted original audio matches the archived audio by audible content and duration. At least one reported bird must be audibly identifiable in that recording, and its species name must agree with the checklist. Text alone or a media URL without submitted audio fails.
  3. The species/count rows match the public checklist. Where the audio does not establish a visual count, the report labels that count as observer-reported rather than independently confirmed.
  4. The record includes the human observer's good-faith statement that the count and media were made at the stated time and place and were not synthesized or reused. This statement is required but is not, on its own, proof of a physical observation.
How is the winner selected?

Only submissions passing every criterion qualify. Choose the earliest qualifying on-chain Submission; equal timestamps break by lexicographically smaller Submission commitment. If none qualifies, the outcome is no_valid_submission.

Out of scope

No rare-species claim is required. No claim of independent human review by eBird is implied unless the public record explicitly shows it.
